In 1995, Maryanne Nicpon and Don Rathbun purchased an 82 acre farm, just outside Saratoga, NY in the town of Milton. They decided on the name, Minglewood Farm and opened in November 1995 as a boarding facility. Maryanne brought with her to the farm, her two mares, Hotlips and Inkognito, who were mother and daughter. Hotlips was 23 at the time and in foal to Wolkenflug. Maryanne had always had an avid interest in breeding, since attending Cornell University and studying Animal Science. But until this time, she was not able to pursue this interest as she was boarding her horses out. Maryanne decided to breed Inkognito in 1996, and looked at hundreds of stallion videos. It became clear at that time, that Maryanne was very attracted to the Holsteiner type and decided to breed Inkognito to dressage stallion, Cheenook. Once this foal was born in 1997, there was no turning back. Minglewood Sport Horses was born ! Maryanne became passionate about the Holsteiner breed and strived to learn all she could. Maryanne and Don attended their first AHHA inspection in 1997, and learned a lot from that experience ! Soon after, Maryanne acquired her first Holsteiner mare, Sarlone, a direct Marlon daughter. Sarlone helped Minglewood build a good group of Holsteiner mares, and for that we will always be grateful. Minglewood hosted AHHA inspections in 2002 and 2003. At this time, the number of Holsteiner breeders in the Northeast seemed to be growing, and in 2003, Minglewood handed the torch to Winley Farm in Millbrook, a much larger facility that has been hosting AHHA inspections every year since.
At this time, Minglewood has five German stamm Holsteiner mares, three imported and two homebred, two A-stamm mares and one thoroughbred mare. We had three beautiful fillies in 2010 and had two more fillies in 2011.
