Hotlips (evented under the name "Comic Relief" was a 1972 mare who came to Cornell University from Oklahoma in 1980, to be a polo horse.  Polo did not work out for Hotlips and she was scheduled to be sent to the auction, when Maryanne decided to lease her for a summer and see if she had any talent or desire to jump.  Hotlips proved to be a very tenacious jumper and although she never really got over her trust issues, she became rideable and went to several horse trials with Maryanne.  Hotlips competed at Novice Level (called Pre-Training in the 80's) and Training Level.  Hotlips then had four foals over the course of eleven years: Inkognito (1985 mare by DaCapo), Alex (1988 gelding by Der Radetsky), Aftershock (1989 TB gelding by Witty Boy, sire of Theodore O'Connor), and Waldemar (1996 gelding by Wolkenflug).  Hotlips then became the babysitter of the farm and lived happily to the age of 32, turned out with her daughter, Inkognito.
